Tree Removal

I don’t really want to cut down the enormous tree in my backyard, however, it’s leaning toward the house and appears to be dying. I had a guy come in to take a look at removal and before he gets back to me on pricing I’d like to know ballpark what I’m looking at in cost. It’s a fairly large tree, the kind you’d see on the sidewalk, so I was hoping that there may be a chance I could seek some relief via home insurance. Anybody know if this is possible? Many thanks in advance.

I agree – get as many quotes as possible. I’ve had one project where Urban Arborists had the most expensive quote, but they came in lowest on another job- removal of an enormous 50′ tree. Seems like the business is still pretty back-of-the-napkin, you just have to catch them on a good day.

The folks at Urban Arborist are very expert but you will pay more.

Great list arkady. We used urban arborist to prune one of our trees – large american elm. It was $1,800! I thought it was too much even for a large tree but had to do it. They did it 5 days before hurracaine sandy. It could have been a disaster so money ‘well spent’!

Here are several arborists people have recommended – I’d get more input/estimates if I were you. Schultz & Family seem to be the favorites. Clearview Prospect Urban Arborist Ken Nicely Lawrence Schultz Family Your Tree Tree Care Rite Way

Homeowner’s insurance will only cover the damage if it falls on your house and maybe not even then with some policies. I used Family Tree Service to remove a 30-40′ catalpa from my yard. i want to say it was $400 back in 2008 but I think it might have been higher. They had the whole thing down, cut up and out through the first floor apartment hallway in 30-40 minutes.
