Salt tearing up my new sidewalk - What should I use this year?

I got a new concrete sidewalk poured a couple years ago, and winter was not kind to it. I used a number of different de-icing products, so I’m not sure which one is the culprit. It seems like calcium chloride is supposed to be the gentlest, but I saw damage after that application as well. Do I just have a lower grade of concrete? Had I already done damage by the time I switched to calcium chloride, thus explaining the flaking after that application? Main question: What should I use this year?

Also you have to be vigilant about clearing the slush that results. Some concrete issues are from repeated freeze thaw from using the salt and not clearing the slush and it refreezing.
