parking garage rent change question
We keep a car in a big garage with monthly rent. I just dropped off my check for for this month and the attendant said the fee has gone up. We were given no notice of this, but have to give at least 30 days notice to “leave” our spot. Does anyone know if this is legal? I thought surely they would have to at least send out written notice of the change at least 30 days in advance of it. Anyone actually know? Anyone know of local lawyer who will write it up for me, at a reasonable cost? Dealing with the management is a real pain. The change is small and I wouldn’t mind it much, but based on other problems, it might be offensive enough for us to leave. Despite the many problems due to poor management, we really like the actual attendants who work there and hate to move to some other garages where I’ve not been so impressed.

I am sure that there are plenty of people on their waiting list, waiting for your monthly spot!

Businesses must post rate increases on the premises at least 60 days before the rate goes up. If the business follows this procedure, there is no limit to the amount the rate may be increased. http://www1.nyc.gov/nyc-resources/service/2931/garage-or-parking-lot-complaint
