Moving to East Flatbush home... security? Where to start and costs?

Hi all, I am looking at a duplex home in East Flatbush, on one side the home borders another home, on the other side, it borders the shared driveway. There are 10 windows on the bottom level at the back of house and driveway side. How much does it cost to have those permanent bars installed to vinyl siding? Also, what do I put on the upstairs windows that can be easily broken into from the room? I’d certainly add cameras, action sensored lights, and home alarm system (what’s the cost for that, too?) I’m starting to think I’m 30k just to safety proof this home. I’m guessing 1-2k per window for iron work bars, 1k for lighting, 2k for cameras?

Those “permanent” black window bars are a fire trap. I would speak to the neighbor of the shared driveway and see if you can split the cost of a remote controlled gate. Look at what all the neighbors have, do they have bars all over? Walking a Rottweiler in and out of the house and around the neighborhood is a better deterrent if you really do not feel safe there. You will meet many of your new neighbors that way as well and as you all get to know each other, you will see that they all look out for each other. I have a couple of buildings in East Flatbush and I do not have any problems, nor do any of my tenants.

you’re numbers look about twice as much as it should actually cost.
