Kitchen countertop

Has any one used Pietra Cardosa & Mother of Pearl Quartzite for a countertop? If so, what was/is your experience? A lot of maintenance? Stains easily? etc Does any one know a good stone supplier?

Sethamin: What has stained the countertop? Surely only soap and water at use in a powder room? Perhaps the difference is just aesthetic. We went for a fairly rustic look in our kitchen so the pietra cardosa (which is dark gray) works well for us.

We used Pietra Cardosa as the vanity top in our powder room – and I would stay far, far away from it. It is incredibly porous and absorbs water like crazy. Anytime you wash your hands the countertop looks wet for at least an hour. It also etches and stains easily. Perhaps my countertop is not properly sealed, but as it stands now I would never consider using this again. Are you looking for a fabricator, or somewhere to shop for a slab?

We have pietra cardosa countertops and love them. We don’t take good care of them (have bever resealed them, for example). They’ve gotten darker over time but have never stained. The edges can chip if you crash a cast iron dutch oven against it but that’s a risk for any stone. We like the look — more natural than granite, lower maintenance (none) than soapstone.
