Humidification System
Anyone have experience installing humidification when installing central air? It seems to be a pretty polarizing topic with people either strongly for (eliminate dry winters) or against (concerns about dampness in walls, condensation).

I might be happy to quote your project but you have to reach out me.

Humidification becomes an issue if you have a forced hot-air heating system. These systems dry out the air in winter and since the ambient humidity is already low at that time of the year, adding a humidifier makes sense. If you have steam, its unlikely that you need humidification and if I understand you correctly, it sounds like you are considering a stand alone system that would run in the winter using the A/C ductwork. This sounds expensive to install and ultimately a waste to run on the rare occassions when the humidity is so low in the winter that humidification would be called for.

Thank you for your responses. We are getting a quote of $17,000 and are trying to justify it. We are getting some feedback about this being rare for residential use unless you have precious art, etc. In fact, the A/C guy himself feels that way. But, the architects are pushing it. I have heard it has to be done with real precision to avoid the dampness and condensation.

mapseeker, If the humidity is kept below 50% there should never be a problem with mold. There is rarely a need to go over 35%. Proper distances from fittings and other items in your ductwork will prevent water from building up inside the duct and will allow for the humidity to be taken up into the airstream. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any other questions. Steve heat@moltenmechanical.com

Pro-humidifier here. Last year we had a humidifier put into our central air when updating the system, and are very happy with it. We turn it off for the summer (and run a stand-alone dehumidifier). We found no condensation or dampness at all and like the added humidity for our dry sinuses with the heat running.
