HONEY BEE HIVE RELOCATION

Would like to relocate honey bee hive in the knot of a very very big elm tree. Don’t want to exterminate. Have tried both Botanic Gardens, Parks Dept, etc. Thanks!

There is an association of NYC beekeepers at bees.nyc. I’m sure if you contact them they could put you in touch with a local beekeeper.

This might not be very helpful because I’m sending you on a wild bee chase, but I just heard an entire segment on bee keeping on NPR or WNYC the other day. Don’t remember which show, but it was very informative.

see what arkady says. now I had an uncle who was a professional bee keeper out on LI and when I needed a swarm moved (they looked as though they were planning to stay), I called him for advice. he told me to call the local beekeeper’s association which I did and a beekeeper was more than glad to come out and remove them. these bees do have a monetary value to some people and my uncle was always removing honey bees from houses and setting them up in hives all over the north fork of Long Island. Hives have to be registered w/ Dept. of Health. You can go on their site to find bee keepers in your area & get in touch w/ one or more to see if they want your bees. There are also several bee keeping associations you might be able to Google to contact.
