Exterior waterproofing

I am looking at hiring a contractor to do excavation and exterior waterproofing of my cellar. – Do we need permits to do this work? – Any recommendations on contractors to do this? Also, I have heard there is also a process that can be used where companies drill holes through the foundation wall from the inside and pump some kind of clay that hardens on the exterior. Any experience/recommendations on this process? Thanks.

My co-op did injection waterproofing over a year ago. We used a LIC based company called CGI. Our basement is now dry. There is a 3 year warranty. The walls are sounded and silicon is injected in the bad area. The company gave a detailed proposal, and all change orders had to be approved in advance. We paid $45 per square foot for each injection.
