DOB violation for shed attached to a garage.
The violation was for an existing shed that was attached to the garage. It was already there when I purchased the house many years ago. The violation was for work w/o permit. 1) How can I prove this in court? 2)Can I just pay the violation and not have it removed? 3)If I have to remove it, do I need to file for a permit? Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Does a shed need a permit? Or is the issue that it’s attached to the garage?

Class 1, $1600 No Cure date. Just court appearance date. The issue here is that it was already there when I purchased the house. I’m not in the process of building it now. It should not be my responsibility to get a permit when it has already been built. What exactly would happen if I just go to court and try to fight it ,pay the fine but not remove it? Just to make sure….can I remove this myself or do I have to take out a permit and hire outside contractors? Thanks for the help!!

You’d have to go to OATH, admit guilt, pay the fine, remove it, get OATH then DOB to accept the cure and then have them individually remove the violation. It’s a bunch of small steps that take forever to accomplish. What the class of the violation? What’s the fine?

An answer by the numbers: 1\. It does not matter who put it up, you own it. 2\. No. 3\. No, read the violation for Cure.
