contract question

My co-op received a bid for a masonry job. The description of the job is extremely minimal and it does not specify the types of materials to be used, the amount, the price per foot, etc. Should a contract with a mason specify this type of thing? We are redoing a walkway. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks.

Contracts for minor masonry work rarely itemize materials or breakdown price much if at all. The best way to value the bid is to get several other bids and compare them. If one itemizes the proposal in a little more detail, you can ask the others to do submit in a similar form so you can compare apples to apples. Hope that helps!
