Commercial Grade Washers/Dryers for Co-op Building

Hi All, I’m curious if anyone has had to look in to buying commercial grade washers and dryers for a multi-unit building. The woman researching this for our building says that representatives at stores and companies, such as Whirlpool, say they’ve never heard of such a thing. Clearly standard washers aren’t going to hold up. Does anyone have any information on this? Thanks!

We are a 10-unit, 100% owner-occupied Co-op that is self-managed. We are looking at replacing our current out-sourced laundryroom vendor (CoinMach). The preference is to buy our own commercial washer/dryers. We would be buying two stackable washer/dryer units. I have a couple questions: 1\. We presently have Speed Queen. Should we stick with those or look at Maytag or Whirlpool commercial machines? 2\. Do we need to buy a service contract or maintenance contract? 3\. What opinions/advice to you have about whether we make the machines free to use? Or should we make them coin-op, but for a very tiny cost (.25 or .50)? Obviously, there is the concern that if they are free they will be over-used, but most of the residents think this is unlikely. The advantage to a tiny charge per use is that the money will partially or fully offset any needed service calls. Thoughts? Thanks!

Thanks, everyone. The thing is, I’m not sure we need something as serious as Speed Queen. Our current Sears brand washers say “commercial quality” on them, but look like your standard washer/dryer. Not coin operated or industrial or anything. Do you know if we should have something more serious for eight units?

We brought our machines from GoldCoin. They are commercial grade Whirlpools that are coin-operated.
