Backyard fence and landscaping

We’re looking to put up a new fence in the backyard as well as landscape it. In a perfect world would like to lay down bluestone for portion of backyard. Anyone out there work with someone affordable who would be able to design and execute? Looking for someone who can be creative while on a tight budget. Many thanks in advance.

I’d give a high recommendation to John and Anne at Design By Plants, based in Park Slope: www.designbyplants.com. They’re in the middle of transforming our own backyard, and they’ve been great. The site makes them look exclusively like plant people, but they’ll do a fence and bluestone — they did a fence for us, in fact, with bluestone to follow…. Great to work with, very reasonable, and they’re creative/responsive about working within a budget.

We used Dragonetti to replace a tree out the front of our co-op that was damaged by a truck last year, was higher than I expected in cost….but in comparison to the other quotes was about 60% and did a pretty good job including cleaning up afterwards (had to remove stump/enlarge the tree pit to the new NYC standards etc so wasn’t straight forward.)

I just did some shopping around for a significant backyard update (Moving/removing concrete and bluestone, augmenting soil, transplaning and adding many new plants, sod). The prices were all higher than I expected but we eneded up going with Dragonetti and are very please with the results. They have a landscape architect on staff who helps with design and plant selection and the team who did the work was professional and very fast (and clean– everything came through the house with no damage). We’re at the end of a long contruction project and didn’t have the time or (honestly) energy to jump into months of weekend yard work ourselves. Dragonetti handled the project soup to nuts with beautiful resluts and the bid came in lower than the smaller design firms we spoke to.
