The pilot light on my boiler (Gas fired steam) has gone out on its own twice over the last week. It lights back up just fine. What are some of the causes of this, and is there any cause for concern?

  1. also make sure that the pilot assembly has not been fouled from a boiler leak

  2. making sure that the automatic vent damper is open, hold a piece of smoldering paper up to the vent hood while the chimney is cold…if the smoke is pushed back into the room, you have a backdraft condition that can probably be fixed by getting a chimney guy to modify the top of the chimney

  3. Thanks. How would I test for a backdraft condition, and what can be done if one exists?

  4. replace the thermocouple, and make sure that you do not have a backdraft condition on the chimney
