Millenial Tenants?
For the landlords out there… Is it just me, or do the 20-something renters out there seem more indecisive and less courteous than renters in the past? Perhaps my memory is getting hazy?
if your place was a good deal, they wouldn’t be indecisive.
Looks like the position of power has flipped from landlords to tenants and you’re all suddenly surprised by the ‘rudeness’?
A few years ago the landlords and their broker representatives were the biggest d-bags around. Good to see that you’re all getting humbled now.
I’ve heard ridiculous stories of landlords requiring guarantors of potential tenants with good salaries and good money (their own) in the bank because they didn’t have local references.
Do your homework, landlords.
“Renting an apt can take some time, effort and patience – exhibit A. That’s why many LL’s couldn’t be bothered and use brokers.”
And that is why the landlords should pay the brokers fee..Yeah, yeah, we get the economics of the market, but I still dont agree with the notion — in the day and age of the internet, brokers generally do a service for the landlord, not the tenant. The worst is when a renter learns of an available apartment in a building (say through a friend who lives there, super or however) but still needs to go through a broker to get it.. That should be illegal.(Is it?)
I just find it odd that, w/ its being so easy to stay in touch nowadays, people don’t simply make a phone call about a delay or postponement.
if you think renting to them is a probelm. wait until you have some working for you…
Rob, I get what you’re saying. Midwesterners suck because they don’t get cynicism and sarcasm. Randolph, toughen up buddy, that’s the only thing that’s gonna make you a real New Yorker. “Screw you, Rob” would have been sufficient, but you had to go all whiny on us.
people who need guarantors SUCK. dont move somewhere if you cant afford it on your own. it really just drives up the rent for everyone else who dont have rich parents.
*rob*
“technology has made inter-personal contact less important in their eyes.”
Also, Get off my lawn!!! (rolls eyes) People are always saying things like this with every generation of whippersnappers.
I feel like 20-somethings have _always_ been pretty flaky, and agreed that a more renter-friendly market combined with a little bit more skittish job situation exacerbates that.
