We received a letter from the HRA – does anyone know about this and have used their services? We are in major need for a reno and it would be great if we can get the support they say they provide. thanks!

there is usually a little disclaimer somewhere in the letter (way at the bottom in fine print) stating that they have no affiliation to the gov. Scam. Also, there are ones about getting your deed, etc. Also a scam.
Oh yeah, we are constantly receiving notices like these too — fake official-looking “government” notices about home improvement and mortgage refinancing. Total scam. Hard to believe this stuff is legal. I’d like to report them, but I guess people already have. At least they have to have the disclaimers.

I got something from them also and although my gut told me it was a scam I had to take a few minutes to call and see what they would pitch me. Sure enough they tried to tell me they would get me a “grant” if I used one of their “approved” contractors. They also wanted to do a credit check to find out what “grant” they could approve me for. I promptly ended the call. My guess is it’s a contractor using a sham company to make a quick sale. By the time you realize what’s going on they probably already have your money and have left you with a subpar job.
Nothing in life is free and if you can afford any sort of house you’re probably not getting any sort of government grant.

Search their site for a brick-and-mortar address (you’ll either not find one, or it’ll take you a whooooole lotta digging). Anyone can (and does) purchase a .us domain name, which is NOT the same as a .gov domain name. The fact that HRA posts real .gov or BBB links on their “Helpful Links” page neither indicates nor proves that HRA has working relationships with or approval by any of the links posted.
