I have a ten year old Bosch SHU 6800 series dishwasher that will be uninstalled tomorrow. Until a week ago, it worked really well–relatively quiet, cleaned great, multiple functions, delay start, yada-yada-yada. The computer went a little nuts suddenly, though, and we had A-Z Best Appliance out to repair it. They said it needs a new computer, which they had in stock and would put in for $350. We were on the fence about whether to put the money in or get a new one, and we decided to go for a new one with a warranty, etc, rather than repair the old. Not sure if it was the right move.. but anyway. I think this thing is certainly worth the money to fix for someone looking to get a fancy dishwasher without breaking the bank. It cost around $1000 new. Yours for $75 if you pick it up from me in Prospect Heights asap. As is, obviously. (It looks great, though it has a very small dent near the bottom.) prospectheightsguestapt@gmail.com

  1. My whirlpool dishwasher was purchased in 1996. It has touch tone controls and came with 2 front panels. One black and one white. All for $350 bucks brand-new. I never had a service call. You will have to kill me before you separate me from my dishwasher!

  2. For you it might be a decision that could go either way – if you trust the guy’s diagnosis you could spend the money on the repair & feel good about not contributing waste to the environment and save a few buck vs. new and avoid the hassle of removing the old and buying new and getting it installed.

For someone else to pay you to come and pick up your broken appliance — not likely to happen.

It’s unfortunate that so many appliances are disposable. I try to buy the ones with the least complicated controls (the simplest dials and buttons possible) and avoid the ones with the computer that will cost $350 to replace when it breaks.

  3. And I guess you guys at least make me feel I made the right choice getting a new one! Here I was, all on the fence about whether it was irresponsible to get a new one when it would only cost me $350 to have this fancy $1000 one fixed! (I have read the life of a good dishwasher is 15-20 yrs…)

  4. Yeah, yeah, okay… But the installer said he’d take it for himself unless I had someone who wanted it for a hundred bucks, so I figured it was worth a shot!

  5. yeah, I thought reading it you were giving it away free. even then, wasn’t sure you’d get any takers. when I saw you wanted money, I realized you aren’t dealing with reality here. do you even know what the expected life span of a dishwasher is???

  6. Um, is this a reality tv put on? More power to you if you get someone, but you are asking someone to pay you 75 dollars to take away a non-working, ten year old dishwasher which even by your estimate needs at least 350 bucks to become a working ten year old dishwasher.
