Hi all – curious what you think it’d cost for a carpenter to install 5 interior pre-hung doors. Frames, hardware, trim, paint.

I’m thinking 4 days and $1500 plus cost of doors, hardware, etc.

Your numbers much appreciated.

Thanks!

  1. Bond – good advice. Thank you.

AreteIndus – very true, and definitely the case. Thanks!

midnightrider – they do have to rip-out, but very basic doors. Thanks for the perspective.

  2. I wouldn’t hire any finish carpenter that couldn’t hang and trim out five pre-hung interior doors in two hours, not including painting, or removing the old doors. I also wouldn’t pay a finish carpenter to demo or paint.

  3. If it was new construction with plumb, level openings, sheetrock walls and new doors that were measured properly, etc. that sounds right. But in a brownstone, without looking at the condition, it’s more difficult to say.

  4. It depends on what’s involved.

Do they need to rip out the existing doors? Interior/exterior? How big etc. A double hung entry door w/ sidelights is significantly more difficult to wrangle than a powder room closet door.

In any case, 4 days and $1500 seems more than reasonable.

If it were new construction, you could probably expect to hang 5 pre-hung doors interior in a day, no problems.
