I have a laundry room on the second floor of my brownstone. The washing machine jumps and vibrates so badly that it finally has died. Does anybody have a good suggestion for a new model to buy? Looking for a top loader if possible but open to anything that will work well on a upper floor. Thanks!

  1. I have a Samsung frontloader on the 3rd floor and I really like it, although it does shake the house a bit when it hits high spin. Works great on the laundry. I MUCH prefer it over a Bosch Nexxt frontloader I purchased a few years ago, which is in the basement (now used by tenants). The Bosch didn’t clean as well, some loads took hours to finish, and the clothes came wrapped tight out of the Bosch dryer like a babe in swaddling clothes. Good luck.

  2. I have a Whirlpol Duet front loader, and I rue the day I bought it! Clothes come out all knotted together. The thing shakes the whole house when it spins. And yes, it is on a level floor. I don’t think it cleans all that well either…

  3. LOL! Only on Brownstoner could a question about washing machines turn into a political discussion – mopar: May I ask what brand you have?

  4. No, the point is that a perfectly reasonable goal…energy efficiency…may (or may not) be causing an obsolete technology problems, and, instead of suggesting phasing it out as it should be, the WSJ writer rants on about ‘nanny state’, etc, wonder he didn’t get to ‘creeping socialism’

  5. they’re representing the “Ger’off mah lawn” branch of the GOP: new technology is threatening their way of life, as it is an established fact that we can not improve upon the telegraph and the steam engine.

  6. >”How Washington Ruined Your Washing Machin

The fu((*ng Wall Street Journal has never found anything to with energy efficiency or other ethical good to be palatable. Astounding bits of dis-information there.

  7. >The best thing about the top loader is you can add more items while the wash in in progress.

i can do that with my Bosch for a while after it starts washing. not every front loader, though

OP:”the service guy pretty much said the machine was not meant for an upper floor”… I call bs. Get another service person.
