I have a row house that needs plastering that includes hairline cracks, cracks in the cove moulding, the scratch coat has become separated from the lath, and other general problem. I am looking for a good plaster. Can anyone recommend a good plasterer?

  1. I know some people who can do skim coating, but they are helpless at the lathe separating from the walls. For that they replace with sheetrock. A real plaster guy can fix that.

Whoever you hire, make sure they use the mesh tape EVERYWHERE or every crack will come back within nine months. If they say you don’t need it, do not listen to them. Stand over them and make sure they use it.

  2. I have recommended Pedro Salazar many times on Brownstoner, and a number of folks have used him very successfully. I own several buildings and Pedro has worked in all of them for a number of years. He excels at plastering, skimcoating, and painting. He has worked on all my rental properties and skimcoated and painted my personal home. He is trustworthy, reliable, and prices very fairly. He worked in a hardware store for 22 years, so he also has a lot of product knowledge. His mobile number is 347/512-8791. Please tell him Lauren suggested you call him.
