House Hunt
Hi all, here’s my issue. Currently, own (mortgage) condo in Clinton Hills, looking to buy 3BR, 2.5 bath in B’klyn. Don’t want another condo or coop, have young school age children and just need more space. What neighborhoods would be best (considering school needs) and is it possible to find a house for appx. $700K….

Don’t want another condo or coop, have young school age children and just need more space. CH is really expensive, based upon our criteria. Ideas anyone?
Just to be clear, I’m a broker with Corcoran. But you can find a very affordable three bedroom at 1509 Bergen Street, a subsidized new construction coop in Crown Heights. Prices start at $255,000 for a duplex three bedroom, two bath. Four blocks to the A,C train at Utica.
Not a courtyard. A huge garden sometimes as big as a city block.
so a private shared garden as in a private courtyard?
You might also find something in Crown Heights, possibly within reasonable distance of your child’s existing school.
A private shared garden is a huge garden inside the coop, inside the block, that is shared by everyone in the building.
Thanks to all who have responded! The hunt expands…
What’s a “private shared garden”?
Of course. Jackson Heights, Bed Stuy, Bushwick. Schools are pretty good in Jackson Heights. Though you might want to look into coops there too. You can get an awesome three-bedroom 1920s coop with a fireplace, elevator, steps, and private shared garden for $450,000 to $600,000 with 30 percent down. Common charges are about $800.
my understanding re schools is that if they’re attending a school you like, you can continue sending them to that school, even if you move to another part of the boro. But am not a parent so don’t know the details.
Check out various parts of Flatbush, such as the areas around Brooklyn College, Midwood, Fiske Terrace, Beverly Square, Ditmas Park, Prospect Lefferts Gardens etc. The convenient B/Q line runs through, which connects to most subways at Atlantic Ave and is convenient to Manhattan as well. Full of affordable single family homes and near Prospect Park. Kensington is also an area to look into.
