I know this topic has been covered, but I’m looking for any recent dealings/recommendations concerning Brooklyn floor refinishers. I’ve obtained quotes from Unique Wood Floor and Verrazano so far, and Verrazano was considerably more expensive. Has anyone had great experiences with these or others? I’m leaning towards and oil-based finish despite the hassle, smell and toxic fumes because I much prefer the rich color of oil. Any recent thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

  1. I used Sean at “Old Oak Flooring” a few months ago and was very pleased. Called him on a Friday; he showed up on Saturday to provide an estimate; and I think he got to work on Tuesday. As I recall his price was competitive.

He was very thorough and the work is beautiful. At one point he called to say “it’s raining and there’s a leak and part of the floor has turned black”. He was clearly upset. I rushed over to the house to find the tiniest mark from the leak at the door sill. He’s a perfectionist.

I was inclined to go with water-based but he recommended oil for a variety of reasons. As we had not yet moved in, the odor was not an issue.

Call him for an estimate at least…

  2. I just used a crew recommended to me by the guys at WD Lockwood. They did a fantastic job at a reasonable price. For me they sanded and anilene dyed my floors before applying one coat of a tung oil/poly mix and two coats of oil based poly on top of that. Contact Steven 646-963-3057.

  3. I also used Jose Costillo above, and he did a beautiful job. He is meticulous and loves his work. His prices are very reasonable. He is based in Brooklyn. Don’t ask for anything crazy because he will do whatever you ask.

If you have pine, I recommend a sealer, a stain, and four coats of water-based satin finish. (You won’t see it until the final coat, but don’t panic, it is there.) If you have oak, I recommend no stain, and using three coats of water-based semi-gloss (it will darken the wood slightly).

Inti was hired to refinish my hardwood floors, sand and paint all
interior walls and ceilings, and repair and replace the damaged
drywall and window sills of my coop apartment. I am very pleased with
the both the professionalism and quality of work done by Inti. Inti
was very helpful in explaining what work needed to be done, provided a
very reasonable estimate, and finished work when promised. I hired
Inti to make my apartment “move in ready”, and they delivered as
promised. I would surely recommend them without hesitation, and I look
forward to using them in the future.

I am landlord of 3 family building in Prospect Heights. We just had
our 2nd floor tenants move out and we need the whole apartment painted
as soon as possible for our new tenants. Inti Interior Finish made the process of the getting the apartment ready for the new tenants extremely easy. After our first initial meeting I felt very good about Inti Interior Finish. They came in finished the work with
in a day, did a excellent job and I would suggest them for multiple family building owners and single family a like.

Inti did a great job on my floors. The pine subfloor required several repairs before they could be stripped and refinished. They did a very good job of making the new boards blend in with the 100+ year old floor. Inti’s crew were professional and they completed the job when they said they would.
