I need to replace a couple exterior and interior doors. Does anyone have a recommendation, a place that has good quality and some unique selections? Thanks.

  1. Dykes carries Rogue Valley (PA) Doors. You can check the selection on line. I have ordered their product for older homes in Brooklyn and the customers have been please with the result; new door which looks suitable in older home.

Exterior doors, Dykes also has Simpson which seems to be a quality product.

I would think anything Dykes would carry is quality so check the other brands other posters mentioned.

Also, as Slope Girl says, Build it Green. But the product will have to be refinished which I have come to realize is not worth the trouble unless you have found exactly what you want.

If you need custom work done to match period, I can make that in my shop, but as I tell everyone I do work for “try to buy it first and if you can’t find it, we can make it.” It gets pricey.

  2. I just bought 4 interior french doors at lowes, special ordered 7′ height. 6 week lead time. Inexpensive and look nice. First batch all damaged, second batch perfect.

Identical doors from S&E (who I’ve had several dealings with and highly recommend) were 50% more but were available the next day.

  3. Brooklyn Window & Door Corporation on McDonald and Quentin Rd ((718) 627-6400) has a good selection and competitive pricing. I ordered uniquely-sized doors from them and was very impressed with their delivery. They delivered on time, as promised, despite the huge snowstorm over Christmas (note that Home Depot delayed my delivery by a week during the same time frame).

  5. Dyke’s lumber has a decent selection of brands. I bought a Lemieux door there and am quite happy. They are cheaper than Thermatrue but similar quality. Go there and look through their catalogs.

  6. I needed some plain vanilla-type internal and external doors last year and just went to Home Depot and Lowe’s; they seem perfectly satisfactory, though I don’t know what they have if you want something fancier.
