We are thinking about doing a one-week vacation swap of our co-op in a small building, using one of the major online services. Does anyone have experience with the legality of doing a brief house swap, or the practice of doing it without asking co-op permission? How different is it from having someone stay in your place to pet-sit?

  1. >If I were a neighbor, I would be concened seeing someone moving into a neighbor’s apartment.

Most guests don’t “move in”…that’s why they’re called ‘guests’.

  2. Most coops have guest policies for very good reasons. You should notify your coop board of your intent and ask for permission. If I were a neighbor, I would be concened seeing someone moving into a neighbor’s apartment.

  3. I’d be interested if you actually found a swapper. I spent quite some time including signing up on sites to find someone for a London-NYC swap for 10 days in April (school break.) Only 1 sort-of-nibble and it didnt work out. Good luck…seems a short swap is not attractive.
