Changing a Tub to a Shower?

Does anyone see a problem with making this switch? One contractor said no problem. A different contractor said we may have draining problems.
Thoughts?
A few months ago we passed on an amazing apartment, mainly because it had two fabulous showers and no tub. I still thing about that apartment, and how I would add a bathtub to it.
No code issue requiring a tub. I’d say a toss up on resale. Some will like it and some won’t. Frankly I’d really rather have a beautiful walk in shower than a tub. But, if you have the space, both are best.
i wondered about this myself. is there a code issue with apartments needing a tub? or will just a shower be ok? any thoughts on resale?
The 1 1/2″ tub drainpipe needs to be upgraded to a 2″ to meet code. Make sure the plumber pulls a permit.
>I see here is will the plumber do the right thing
what does that have to do with OP’s question?
This seems a perfectly straightforward issue. Picking the shower enclosure and tiles will be the major factors 😉
I was interested in doing the same. What ballpark estimates did you get?
The problem I see here is will the plumber do the right thing by getting a plumbing permit from the DOB.
Or if the shower pan is custom built to match the existing drain?
There won’t be new draining problems if you move the drain 2′ from where it is now…to the center of a shower vs. at the end of the tub as it’s currently configured.
