Stripping and refinishing a front door
For twin doors on a brownstone, badly in need of stripping and refinishing, who would you suggest? What’s a reasonable cost? Any suggestions on materials and methods?

John Gamba in Park Slope did mine about 25 years ago – the shop’s still there but I don’t know if he does it any more.
there a big price difference between refinishing on location, or in a shop.If it’s just the doors ( and not the surround) try getting them done offsite.
Most importantly, regardless of the method for stripping, proper prep, and the right exterior grade finish is a must if you want them to last.
Don’t use McCloskeys or Helsman, but get a real marine varnish like Epifanes, or Bristol Finish.
