Steel Well?
My contractor who is renovating basement at the moment has asked me about a steel well. I think he is referring to the trap door on street side which we would like to have a stairs going up into the well for egress. He is from out of state so is not familiar with suppliers…
My contractor who is renovating basement at the moment has asked me about a steel well. I think he is referring to the trap door on street side which we would like to have a stairs going up into the well for egress. He is from out of state so is not familiar with suppliers here so it is my job to find one. I searched the forum and of course Dave in BedSty came up. Dave – anyone? Can you send me a site describing exactly what it is, what to buy?

If you google window well egress, you’ll find plenty of images which your contractor can look at and tell you if that is in fact what he has in mind. I know in the South I’ve heard them called steel wells, which is what makes me think that this is what he’s talking about.

He’s probably talking about a window well. They make them large enough for egress these days, Kamco or any of the larger lumber yards would be able to order you one. I’d just clarify with him that this is in fact what’s he’s talking about.
LOL…they were there for coal delivery. Not sure who can make one but any metal fabricator could.
