I live on 6th Avenue in Park Slope. Recently I broke one panel of glass on the inside door of our double front door at the top of the stoop. It was 1875-ish original etched, patterned glass identical to that found in other inner doors on the block. The second (right hand) panel is intact (and I have saved several large shards of the broken left hand panel as samples). Question: Where do I turn to get a replacement pane? Who can custom etch a replica? Anyone know an answer? (It can’t be the first time this has happened).
Gavin Young Maloney does this. Unfortunately, he has moved upstate. But you might try contacting him anyway as he does visit or might have some suggestions.
There’s a place on 5th at around 1st Street on the west side of the avenue.
You might also try the Glass Factory near BAM – they teach there but there are artisans as the faculty.
BTW, if etched glass, you might try this company or ask Tomas Tisch for a recommendation: http://bit.ly/gQupHL
Etched or wheel-cut? If the latter, try wheel-cut glass master Tomas Tisch in Red Hook: http://bit.ly/b3l6g4
