I realize that everyone knows about missing Ikea product pieces and how appalling their customer service is, but I just wanted to mention a particularly problematic product line to prevent others going through what I am going through!

The Broder heavy duty shelving system is durable and nice looking, BUT there were missing pieces from 10+ of the items I bought. (It’s sold in component parts and the online inventory is even more inaccurate than usual)

If you decide to buy it, look at the instructions first and identify all the parts and make sure you’re getting them. The way Ikea packages this system allows for small parts (and even larger ones) to fall out on the shelves and you don’t realize your mistake until it’s too late.

Their customer service mailed me the missing pieces, which I waited 10 days for, but they were the wrong pieces!

A simple project took about 4 weeks to complete and too many trips to Ikea.

  1. Big Elfa sale on at the Container Store through Feb 15, folks. When we bought a bunch of this stuff (two closets + shelving in our study) we had a great experience both with the in-store design/sales help and with the installation.

  2. It’s a metal shelving system which I am using for basement storage. The shelves are 23″ deep by 46″ wide so it’s really useful once you get all the parts! If I had known to undo packages and double check component parts, I would have been very happy with the product.

  3. If this is a closet shelving system, the ones I bought at HD were very good and actually came with extra pieces of hardware. It’s a sturdy, modular system with clothes racks as well. Wood grain and white.
