Looking to buy Bosch Axxis washer/dryer combo in the coming weeks and wondered if people had preferred places to purchase? I’m moving into a walkup so I need full delivery and install services. Any recommendations would be welcome.

I’m thinking of Lowe’s because I got the standard 10% moving coupon and I can purchase a tax refund gift card which would give me a 10% bonus. The combined savings I think would be hard to beat but I wanted to see what others thought.

  1. Before I bought the Axxis combo, I considered the ventless dryer but read several reviews and heard from a few people who had one and decided against it for the traditional vented model based on their comments.

I was told about various problems from excessive humidity to water collection due to the ventless system.

I liked the overall small size of the units and their large capacities, but had I known about not being able to use bleach in the washer, would have eliminated the Axxis at the start.

As I mentioned, when the condo was built, the developer put in apartment-sized Frigidaires. I never had any problems with them in 10 years. While the capacity isn’t as large as the Axxis, the Frigidaires performed every bit as well as the Axxis, for much less money up front.

  2. Wow. Thanks all. There’s seems to be universal dislike about Lowe’s.

As for my choice in washer/dryer- I’ve been agonizing for months over this. I love the feedback- so chime in if you can.

Axxis has great reviews all over the place. I know a few people that have it and they like it too. Silent, its own water heater, and not really too much more expensive then the alternatives. It also has the largest washer- 3.4 cubic feet. When we’re talking sizes this small- every decimal helps.

The GE and LG look nice- but I haven’t read any independent reviews for them. Any links would be great.

Are those the only 3 choices with a ventless dryer? Thanks.

  3. FWIW I found AJ MAdison to be incredibly rude when I tried to make a purchase at their showqroom (as opposed to ordering on line, which seems to be their stock in trade). I don’t know how good or bad their service might be; my wife and I walked out after waiting over a half hour for some someone to help us. I’d never go there again.

  4. This comment is more about the Bosch Axxis units. I purchased those when I lived in a condo in Manhattan to replace the original Frigidaire units. I should have gone w/ the Frigidaire.

The new Bosch Axxis units I bought were not great. the dryer took much longer than the Frigidiare to dry. Had to first replace the thermostat unit after installation since it wouldn’t get hot.

Then found out the washer couldn’t take bleach. Apparently the Axxis models use hoses that are degraded by bleach. Bosch claimed the hot water temperature was sufficient to get whites clean. It wasn’t! My whites came out dingy.

I would ask questions before purchasing these units. I was greatly disappointed by them.

  5. Actually,I found the best prices on my appliances at Krups Kitchen and Bath in Manhattan, 18th Street and Broadwsy. They were great to work with too.

  6. Lowe’s is HORRIBLE. First they ‘lost’ my order, then it the item became discontinued, they had to order the equivalent, and they never notified me that it had arrived, and randomly showed up one day to deliver….AJ madison has been great, very organized and prices are right!

  7. I second EBA on Nostrand. They will always lower the posted price if you ask them and their starting price is always lower than the sale prices anywhere else.
