So far have not been able to fine front doors through salvage and am beginning to consider having doors made. Has anyone used Southslope Woodworks to make new front doors? Other door makers that you recommend?

  1. Denton, yes, your beautiful door. Thank you for the reminder.

And Steve, thank you also for Demolition Depot. I’ve looked there in the past, but I think it might be worth going there with pictures of what I want in hand.

  2. Demolition depot is more expensive than diamond shoes. yuk. I suggest Eddie on Green Ave and Grand Ave. Or Roy of Salvaged Iron under the subway on 9th street next to Lowes. Or Build It Green in Queens.

  3. Thank you all. I read through the SSW post and I honestly don’t know what to think. I’ll have to do some more scouting around. I’ll definitely look into first two. Thisi s something where I have a little time, luckily.

  4. Try Recyclingthepast in Barnegat NJ. Actual bargaining prices are less than web site prices.

Last time I was there, they had about 2 dozen ornate pairs, but you’ll need a particular size/height unless you are rebuilding the frame.

He delivers to Brooklyn, does fine work, and is tremendously cheaper than anyone in NYC.

He made us a pair of doors out of spanish cedar which look great varnished, but he has access to all types of wood.

You send him a jpg of what you like etc.

Haven’t spoken to him in a few years, but I believe other referrals to him say he is still in business.
