Yet another bad recommendation for Ricardo Ironwork
After reading all the stuff about Ricardo being tardy and unreliable we still decided to give him a chance to work on our renovation ( big steel deck, steel doors X4, and a steel staircase to cellar) because he seemed knowledgeable. After reading all the stuff about Ricardo being tardy and unreliable we still decided to give him a chance to work on our renovation ( big steel deck, steel doors X4, and a steel staircase to cellar) because he seemed knowledgeable.
Well the first direct warning was the 5 phone calls and 3 messages ( answering machine was full the other 2 times 🙂 it took before he finally decided to come and bid on the job. We accepted his offer because he seemed knowledgeable about brownstones and promised to finish the job in 3 weeks…the earliest! Big mistake really…we paid an advance deposit to start the work but he then changed the start date to 2 weeks later…we agreed because he promised to finish earlier than he had predicted. Well almost 3 weeks went by with no start and only repeated promises.
This is all after we obtained all the permits and architectural drawings for him. After more than 6 weeks since our initial meeting we decided to pull the plug and ask for our deposit back…wifey’s friend is a trial attorney so we got the money back quickly but what a waste of time. This guy is beyond unprofessional and frankly doesn’t deserve to run a business. Some people may have been lucky with him but we’ve found several other posts here that turned out to be very accurate and in agreement with our assessment that this guy is a waste of time and less than a professional!
Hey kwar228,
thanks a lot we really like your deck and Lopopolo will probably start ours next week. Thank you too Narrows.
Give DVS Iron Works in South Slope a try (I think they are on 14th St off of 3rd Ave). They have been around a long time. I’m pretty sure you won’t have the same experience with them.
Sounds horrible! We had a deck built by Lopopolo in September and were very happy with him. Search on Bwnstoner and you can see some pics.
Wow! That’s too bad. I’ve always had good experiences w/ him as have neighbors to whom I’ve recommended him.
A shame to hear all the bad news about Ricardo, as I had a wonderful experience with him putting in a deck and stairway last summer. Very reasonable price, on time (early, in fact), welcome design advice, and what appears to be a quality job.
But maybe we just got lucky…
i had earlier supported him here on this site, but I lament that my most recent experience was similar, but worse. your decision to pull the plug early was wise. he has admitted to me to being 6 months + behind. yet he seems to still promise the world with a smile to everyone.
