Seems to be coming from the exhaust and not the vent pipe leading to the chimney. 2003 GE 40 gal that came with the house. Time to replace? If so, any recs? looking for more hot water and better efficiency. 40 gal not enough for house/family. One family. 2.5 baths. Possible future addition with another bath.
You can hook an indirect water heater up to just about any boiler. Give me a call some time and I’ll come take a look and give you some options.
ROFLMAO! That fund is all dried up! Not sure if it was the days laying around on the couch watching Barney Miller re-runs or the gut renno out of pocket?? Need to have you over for an assessment. My steam boiler is a Crown 2003 as well, but have developed a sentimental attachment to my simple one pipe steam system. The product link you provided seems interesting and very possible. Is there a better steam boiler option that would work well with the indirect water heater? And possibly add that solar system in the future that Steam recommends?
Pull the flue pipe off and look at the inside of it. Then look at the chimney. It’s usually a sign of some moisture buildup in the exhaust, i.e. condensation from the tank being too cool while the burner is on.
To get any significantly higher efficiency, you would need to use a whole ‘nother type of product.
You have a boiler, don’t you? Why not cash some of those DeBeers checks you’ve been sitting on and get yourself an indirect water heater already: http://www.triangletube.com/TriangleTubeProduct.aspx?CatID=6&PID=2
