Hi,

I have steam heat and one radiator has developed an insane noise. The radiator is fine and makes no noise except when the heat is on for a while (on the colder days). After it’s on for a while and really heated up it starts making a vicious steam noise that resonates over the entire building.

I put a video clip of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiWRk0BsQRI

If I close the valve it stops, but as soon as I reopen it the steam resonates inside the radiator again. It sounds like it’s about to launch off to the moon. What could be the problem here?

  1. There is a compression disc of one type or another inside the valve that has come loose from it’s retaining threads. Changing the valve is easier than trying to repair it.
