Hi,
I have steam heat and one radiator has developed an insane noise. The radiator is fine and makes no noise except when the heat is on for a while (on the colder days). After it’s on for a while and really heated up it starts making a vicious steam noise that resonates over the entire building.
I put a video clip of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiWRk0BsQRI
If I close the valve it stops, but as soon as I reopen it the steam resonates inside the radiator again. It sounds like it’s about to launch off to the moon. What could be the problem here?
Thanks for the insight on such an odd issue. I appreciate the insight!

There is a compression disc of one type or another inside the valve that has come loose from it’s retaining threads. Changing the valve is easier than trying to repair it.
