Replacing W/D and H/W Heater
Hi, We have a pretty old W/D combined unit and H/W heater that need replacing. W/D on the top floor of our duplex and heater is in the basement. Looking on Lowes, Home Depot etc. these guys all sell the appliances and will apparently do the services included with the price. Couple of questions…is it…
Hi,

Looking on Lowes, Home Depot etc. these guys all sell the appliances and will apparently do the services included with the price.
Couple of questions…is it advisable to use their services? If not, any idea how much it would cost to hire somebody to do the necessary installation work?
Thanks!
Water heaters are not ‘appliances’. They need to be installed by a liscensed contractor. There are quite a few great contractors that contribute to this forum. Get one of them to do the install. And let them purchase the equipment. Do you bring your own eggs to a diner and ask them to cook them for you?
I use A&B Drimmers on Coney Island Ave. for all appliances, and I seem to recall they hooked them up, hauled off the old ones, and did a decent job. They are easy to work with and have excellent prices, and their salesmen are absurdly multi-lingual.
I also had good luck with PC Richard.

Be careful with HD and Lowe’s for appliances. Manufacturers don’t always work to the same specs for those chains as what you would get in an actual appliance store.
