Hi All,
I’m moving to Dumbo next month from Manhattan. I like to jog outside everyday…any advice on running routes from my doorstep? I’d be interested in everything from 3 miles to 10 mile routes.

I’m a young-ish female who runs around 6:30am, so safety is first priority. Where does everyone else run?

Thank you!!!

  1. I used to run over the Brooklyn Bridge and back and then into Cobble Hill and back (Henry out, Clinton back) when I lived in the Heights and loved it. Brooklyn Bridge is best when low traffic. Bikers not a problem if you can run in the pedestrian lane, which is tricky during high traffic times.

  2. Welcome!

Running over the brooklyn bridge is wonderful if you’re doing it at off-peak times. A bit crowded with tourists sometimes, but the aggressive cyclists can be a real safety hazard. But late at night or early morning it’s beautiful. And, in my experience, safe.

Add a loop to the south end promenade (up the hlll by the side of the mechanic’s if you’re feeling energetic) and you’ve got about a 3 mile loop with some good inclines to get your heart rate up.

  3. Again, depends on the length you want, but going along the water through the new park to pier 6, then along the “bike path” on Columbia St… turn onto Van Brunt, then take Imlay/Conover to the waterfront at Fairway, around to Ikea. All perfectly safe (Red Hook seems to be crawling with runners no matter the time and weather), and personally I like being by the water if I can be.
