First, I have no fix-it skills, but I am pissed off enough at Jennair to try. For the 3rd time in 3 years the electric panel on my stove has died. Costs about $200-$250. Jennair will give me a break if I install myself. Can I do this? TIA

  1. You probably can.

I would buy the panel. Get as far as you can with the dismantling. Take digital photos as you remove each screw or clip. Do not force anything.

Sometimes you can find the instructions on the youtube. I fixed a digital camera that way.

If you really get stuck then call somebody. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes helps.

  2. Do you mean the control panel? It probably has wring harness that any idiot can unplug and re-plug in. But the trouble is getting to the problem.

I tried to replace the hard drive on an old laptop — the actual replacement of the drive is the simple part. It was cracking open the case properly that was the problem. Long story short, my enormous hands and guesswork unplugged/severed a million other things because the case wasn’t designed to be re-opened.

That said, I’m sure the panel is designed to be replaced — because obviously they’ve done it before! You just need to know how to get the panel cover off, and it’ll probably be a breeze.

(Make sure you unplug the stove from the electricity and don’t touch anything that looks like a weird battery — those are capacitors and they hold a charge that can kill a rhino!)
