We are close to purchasing a shell and would like some suggestions on how people would design the plumbing/heating system. We would like to install radiant floors and would potentially look to condo the building in the future (will have separate systems for each of the 4 units). Would you use on demand, hydronic? Would you combine radiant floors with a baseboard heating loop? Do you need separate systems for heating water and potable water in Manhattan?
Thanks!

  1. You can not have water that is used for space heating come in contact with water used for domestic use at all.
You can mix radiant floor heating with secondary heat sources, including baseboard fin-tubes, providing it is designed and installed correctly. We do it all the time.
If each unit will eventually be independently owned, but you want to install the tubing now, I would treat each floor as a single zone and with an eye toward maintaining a single temperature throughout the space.
