We have a broken pipe. We turned the water off. We called a plumber right away but the soonest they can come is several hours. Should I cancel and call someone else or just wait?

  1. Vigilante came and fixed everything. They were fast, professional, really clear about what they needed to do and why. Worth every penny. What a relief.

  2. I’m in the process of doing just that, bobjohn. Waterbug flood detectors throughout the basement tied to a solenoid valve on the main and the burglar alarm. Not complicated but a little pricey and involves 2 trades unless your incredibly handy.

  3. on this subject – do people consider some sort of safety switch, which will turn off the water supply if it detects a flooding of the basement? Sounds like simple thing – hook up bilge pump switch to the electric shut off valve.

  4. You’ve got the water turned off. Your immediate crisis is over. If you’re going to call in a second plumber, PLEASE cancel the first one.

Would you really feel like making the first guy chase his tail on your say-so would be a good thing to do?

  5. I would wait. You can call another plumber but don’t cancel the first one. With yesterday’s weather, I’m sure there were a ton of calls for burst pipes. If one shows before the other, just cancel the guy that didn’t get there first.

  6. I have a plumber who is excellent. He JUST fixed a broken pipe in my basement. And i think he said i was his last stop so give him a call. His name is Paul 917 968 4304
