We are working on a New Building that was recently changed from an ALT 1 thanks to the Brooklyn DOB. Our contractor now has to file paperwork to upgrade to the license to work on a 1,2,3 family NB which we are told takes 4-8 weeks. In the mean time, we would like to get back to work, but we need to find a GC who holds the license to work on a NB. I am open to take bids for anyone williing to do about 1 1/2 months work under the supervision of my contractor until his license is processed. If you are interested please message me with your number. You must have the GC license to work on a 1, 2, 3 family New Buildings so you can obtain permits. Thank you!
NYBK01:
From my expediter. Your contractor should go to the DOB during the open window hours. The people assigned to licensing will tell them what they need.
I have frankly never gotten one piece of correct and solid information from the DOB over the phone.
And at any rate, the contractor who pulls the permit carries the liability, so having them supervised under someone who can’t pull the permit makes for a tenuous contract.
Let us know how it goes.

Masterbuilder-
When I called the “Licensing Dept” they told me it takes 4-8 weeks to upgrade from the GC safety license to the GC NB 1, 2 3, family license…I was told it needs to be investigated, which takes some time. Where did you hear it was only a day?
It only takes one day, or an hour really. The DOB window for GC applications is open M-F 1:30 to 3 p.m. The fee is $300.
They do have to prove that they have an average of $25K per month balance in the bank for the past three months however. Other than that they need to provide all of the same documents to the DOB that allows them to be licensed in the first place.

Why does this sound to me like a recipe for disaster? In any case, it will take 1 1/2 months just to work out an agreement between the two contractors.
