I’m at a loss. I have a forced air gas furnace in my 3 family, and for some reason the pilot light randomly goes out. I can’t seem to find a connection to anything in the weather conditions (only does it on windy, rainy days etc.) and the thermocouple is new. The cover was off before, so I put it back on hoping this would put a stop to and woke up this morning with no pilot again. Ideas?

  1. You will need to replace that front piece immediately. When you ignore it from what I was told it will cause a chain reaction and damage other parts of the furnace. Just get an estimate right away.

  2. Yep, Either the thermocouple is no good/not fully in the pilot light, or the pilot light orifice is dirty and clogged. If it turns out the be neither, then the gas valve needs to be replaced.

  3. I had a similar problem which was caused by downdraft. The downdraft was mostly caused by a vent from the boiler room to the roof (was a bathroom vent) that acted as a chimney that sucked air up and pulled that air down the main chimney knocking out the pilot. Wierd.

  4. that flame should surrond the T couple, whats going on with the chimmney top do you have a rain cap on it..maybe with a draft baffle within it keep the wind off the burner chamber

  5. I had a similar issue. I replaced the thermocouple and eman mentioned that the end of the thermocouple may not be directly in the pilot flame. I had a look, and it wasn’t directly in the flame, so I made the adjustment and the pilot hasn’t gone out since. Good luck.
