Just finished doing 15 windows (10 landmark windows, 5 regular) with Windows We Are. They came highly recommended on this forum.

The quality of the installation work was excellent, and the price was good, but everything on the administrative end was difficult.

It took almost a year to get our Landmarks permit sorted out, and it was 18 months between us walking into their store and them finishing the job. They didn’t come when they said they’d come, they didn’t return phone calls, they started the installation without some of the windows, and fifteen other kinds of hassles. All of them seemed to have to do with administrative disorganization.

They did do excellent work, once they actually arrived. But if you use them, plan to manage the process VERY actively.

Also, if you need Landmarks approval, make sure you’re dealing with Andrew Blumetti – our permits went nowhere for eleven months, and then we got connected with him and had them in five weeks.

  1. The windows we bought from them suck.
    Their installation sucked.
And yes they took forever to get the job done.

We didnt have a choice as it was the co-ops decision.

Stick with Marvin or Pella. Well duh, they cost more, but windows is definitly a place where you get what you pay for. And its just not worth it to buy crap.

  2. I had a little situation with them regarding an installation. The area wasn’t prepped properly by their installers and the mess got a bit out of hand.

It wasn’t a huge deal–nothing a sincere apology and a “we’ll do a better job next time” wouldn’t have solved. Instead, I got a half an attitude from the guy.

Guess what? The next 24 windows will be coming from another company.

  3. I had a similar experience. In the end, all turned out well – but not without some delays, unreturned phone calls, wrong sized glass, and a couple of angry (on our part) discussions. Price was good, but not sure it was worth the hassle. I used Windows We Are because of all the good reviews here. Afterwards, I noticed the reviews are kind of old. So maybe they have gone downhill?

  4. My experience was Windows We Are was very satisfactory. Each order (x2 – one for duplex, other for rental) took about 2-3 weeks but they called once windows arrived. Maybe I had to call and inquir once about arrival date. Their prices are very reasonable and workmanship is excellent.

  5. We called three vendors to bid on window repair/replacement including some custom sizes. EZ Tilt/Historical Windows, who also handles LPC permits, was very professional and turned around a thorough bid in two days. Bay Ridge Windows also submitted a bid within two days (cheaper, but less thorough). Windows We Are took WEEKS to submit a phone bid. I’ve read many recommendations in this forum for Windows We Are, but personally have no intention of using a company I need to chase for a bid.

  6. Hmmm…I’m having a similar experience w/them right now also. Since they haven’t installed yet I won’t post too much about my exact story but I can agree w/OP’s comments. The timing has been about twice what they originally told me and the responsiveness a bit under what I’d expect.

On the other hand, their prices are truly competitive + they take care of the LPC permits so if their work is actually that great I’ll live w/the other hassles.

  7. Oh man, I was going to call them for replacement windows once the weather warms up. Now I actually have to research other places?

  8. I second this. Before dealing with “Windows we are” I bough several windows from “Bay Ridge Windows” and was very happy. Then I decided to buy two more from “windows we are”. They took rough opening dimensions and made windows to the size of the opening. Plus they screwed up pattern of the grid. Instead 2×3 it is 3×2.
In the future I only will deal with Bay Ridge Windows.
