Converting a bathtub/shower to a closet/storage unit

My wife and I are going to be moving into a new condo with two full baths, including one bath that has a shower AND a bathtub. We’d rather have more closets in the unit. Has anyone ever converted a bathtub into a closet/storage space? I don’t want to rip out the tub…thinking more about an insert that sits on top of the tub with either flip doors over the tub (for shoes and other items to be stored in the tub) and a hanging bar for clothes. I’ve thought about using IKEA but wanted to hear some other options/experiences and potential cost estimates. Any random tips on process/things to avoid/things to look out for would be much appreciated.
Probably monthly or bi-monthly. Evaporation is slow as the air surface is small. Was also going to say to OP, maybe remove the strainer, use a rubber ball to seal with glue.
How often does one need to run water in a drain to keep it from drying up? I have a shower stall in one bathroom that has not been used for maybe 6 months.
Ok, I that’s a good tip and any plan I’ll try to address. Has anyone on Brownstoner ever done this?
Drain U-bend needs water which prevents sewer gas leaking into house. If you never use the shower/tub, it will eventually evaporate and can leak smelly gas. I suspect you can seal it easily with a rubber tub stop and some silicone glue, but don’t quote me, it’s what I’d do.
sewer gas I think he means… if a drain dries out the S-curve no longer keeps the sewer gases from coming UP and into the room. I think you can google this.
Yep, any clarification would be much appreciated..I don’t really follow…
Jock — can you explain more?
Sorry, I don’t follow..could you elaborate?
I’m sorry, I don’t follow..? what do you mean?
