My DC are getting older so its time for me to find a good zoned school. The problem however is I am on a limited budget approz $1600 for a 2 br apt. Is there anywhere in Brooklyn that I can find this other than Bay Ridge.

Thanks

  1. Kensington. The Northern part belongs to District 15. The elementary schools are PS 130 and 230, and for the middle schools your kids are in the same boat as the kids in Park Slope.

  2. there are plenty of no-fee 2 bedroom apts listed on craigslist in Bay Ridge for well within your budget. Your money will go a little farther in the northern part of the nabe. And italiana is correct, the parking isn’t so bad once you get away from the two major commercial strips (3rd/5th ave)

  3. Coincidently the Bay Ridge Parents Yahoo group is advertising a two bedroom for 1500 a month. (For those who might be interested in moving to Bay Ridge.)

  4. defensive bc i’ve been on this blog a long ass time (too long) and it’s generally a 10 to 1 bay ridge hater/lover ratio. so tiresome!!!!!

  5. Bay Ridge is great in many respects but why be so defensive if somebody doesn’t want to live there? Most neighborhood residents on Brownstoner are honest about the downsides of where they live. Bay Ridge people tend to deny or gloss over the really long commute and near total lack of parking there. Long commutes are simply not suitable for every single person or family in existence. Maybe that’s the case for the OP. Sounds like from the wording he/she is a single parent. Long commutes and no spouse means having to hire a babysitter for more hours each week, to pick kids up from school and stay with them until the parent gets home.

  6. A lot of areas in south Brooklyn is within your price range and have good schools. Bensonhurst, Kensington, Midwood all have good schools and within your price range.
