Hello Brownstoner, my home was damaged during septembers storm. I have just been told by the insurance company’s engineer that we will have to tear down our rear extension and rebuild it. My question is this, who do we use? I need a TRUSTWORTHY contractor. 2. I have to find a place for my family to live for two or three months. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hello,
I am sorry to hear about this misfortune the storm caused. I am a senior project manager for a Brooklyn based construction company named, Grand Renovation. If you are looking for someone trustworthy, honest, and who also has the expertise of working in the Brooklyn area for over 25 years, I would highly recommend contacting, John Buchbinder (President) @ 718.599.7070. More information can be found at http://www.gradrenovation.com. Also, if needed, John has several architects he has formed bonds with over the years and can help you find the best one for you and your budget.
Best to you!
Hi my name is Rob, I am in the directory, I would be glad to help you. Call me at 516 987-3812.
When it comes time to hire your contractor, I recommend against
using the contractor we used for our home, Monk LLC. While the job they did might look good from the street, there were shortcuts taken and mistakes made that have created leaks and other problems. Monk was also very difficult to work with. We have hired a new contractor, Teddy Kordowski, to fix the problems.
I think maybe he was giving your wife more than the eye if it wound up at budget. 🙂
Give Errol a call @ 347 791 2884. He is incredible and will work with you and your budget. He gave my wife and eye everything we wanted at our budget.. VERY VERY PROFESSIONAL !
On the paying for it side, there is the possibility of FEMA money if truly related to storms.
Agree with everyone who says start with the architect, not the contractor. You should interview a couple and see some of their work. Let me give a plug for Tom van den Bout of NV/da Architects. http://nvda.com/ I’ve seen both Tom’s interiors and exteriors, and they are just fantastic (and we’ve hired him to design the restoration of our brownstone’s facade). Good luck!
On the other hand, you do live in bed Stuy, right??? Mosthing there are done without permits.
Heed the above advice. You will need several permits and a GOOD architect. As far as contractors go, give Bullfrog Builders a call.
