0.5 what? I assume you mean 0.5ACH50 (air changes per hour of total volume at 50 pascal). So Passive House (passivhaus) requires 0.6ACH50 which is super tight. but if you go below 1.5ACH50 it starts to make sense (if you vent bathrooms/kitchen 24/7 it makes sense at higher leak rates).
Anyways, only two brands I would recommend is Zehnder (comfoair), European – and Ultimateair (air recouperator 200)
agreed, HRV’s are necessary for very airtight houses that need mechanical ventilation. I doubt any brownstones not renovated to Passive Haus standards would need this. Have you done a blower door check for air change levels on your house? If it’s greater than 0.5 or so, you are not airtight enough to need it.
unless you are in a hyperinsulated, leakless space, a total waste of money
