We’ve tried the usual self adhesive foam and the vinyl gasket strip, but the gaps are too large and uneven. Has anyone solved this problem already, independently or with professional assistance? Many thanks for any input.
Could anyone recommend someone Reasonable rates) who could fix/reconstrute my two original wood exterior doors that has gaps which also lets in air etc.
Yes, post photos
Thanks for the comments; would it be worthwhile to post photos to depict the issue properly?
What Joshi said. Otherwise known as an astragal. You can also add moldings to the hinge side of the door casings to create a better seal. Are you also missing the interior molding that the doors would close against (door stop molding)?
What brucef said. Another option, which won’t work on all setups, is to add a piece of decorative molding on the surface of one door to span the gap.
I’m not sure what you mean by “uneven”. but we would consider ripping the less complicated surface and adding new wood (if they are painted) to close the gap.
It really would depend on the situation, but short of re-framing and rehanging doors, ripping is the only way to get a clean surface.
