People are constantly letting there dogs relief themselves on my iron gates that surround the front of my property and its driving me crazy. Aren’t you supposed to curb your dog? Does anybody else have this problem? Am I being overly sensitive? Anything I can do to stop it?

  1. I am a dog owner and I think its selfish and disgusting that people allow their dogs to pee on someones property. Its really tough to find neutral places where ones dog can pee/poop without interfering in our neighbors’ quality of life – SO I try and follow these simple guidelines:

    NEVER on people’s property
    NEVER on motorcycle covers

On a tree only when its urgent and its the tree vs a building/gate/store

Preferably on a hydrant, a lamp post, a corner garbage can ( so sorry Dept of Sanitation)

It really boils down to Do Unto Others doesnt it?

  2. Not only does it corrode the fence, it burns whatever is growing in the garden in that location. You are not being oversensitive; the dog owners are being obnoxious and self absorbed. The same people who are saying its OK are those who would be outraged if I brought my child to pee on their gate.

I use a watering can with bleach and water, followed by cayenne pepper. If you love your dog then curb him. And forget the “polite, friendly, non-aggro-sounding sign”. They are being rude and aggressive. “Curb your dog. This means YOU” and calling them out(the owners)when you catch them – I invite them to have their dog pee on their own fence. Who cares what they think, as long as they take their dog pee elsewhere.

  3. I think that it is disgusting. Today I watched my neighbor permit their dog to pee and poop in front of my house. Being a dog owner and lover, I find it awful. This is my property and they should let their dogs pee and poop in front of their own house, not mine. I curb my dog and wish that everyone else would do the same thing. Needless to say, that neighbor isn’t a friend, nor will they ever be.

  4. As a dog-owner, I appreciate people getting upset, but they have to realize that a. its not that big of a deal, its pee, not poop. b. there are gates around almost every tree in my area (park slope) that don’t allow my dog to pee on trees. so its either the gated trees, or the stoop.

i don’t mean to sound awful, but their living beings too, and my male dog needs to lift his leg to pee. its not selfish, its not rude, its a fact of life.

  5. Aren’t you supposed to curb your dog?

    YES

Does anybody else have this problem?

    YES

    Am I being overly sensitive?

    YES

Anything I can do to stop it?

    NO

  6. Get a B.B. gun. It won’t stop the dog’s behavior, but the Alpha Hotels walking them will be horrified enough to avoid your property after a couple pings and yelps.

And to those who believe “Curb your dog” does NOT apply to urine, I pity you for you were not raised correctly.

  7. don’t expect much from dog owners. They are selfish individuals.

I just bought a can of spray that is supposed to repel them….maybe it will work.
