I would love a recommendation for a plumber. I need someone to run a new gas line from the cellar to the ground floor for one cooking stove. (Pipe already exists, but plumber is saying that it needs to be changed.) I’m also converting from oil to gas and was told that I need to have a class 500 meter bar installed and 60 feet of black pipe w/the appropriate valves and fittings. I rec’d a bid from Effective plumbing for $9500. Any sense if this is about right? Has anyone used this company?

I will also have to hire someone to swap out the burner? Any recommendations on someone that could do this and thoughts on cost?

Thanks very much!

  1. We used Keith Huggins of Pusky Plumbing. He did excellent work and replumbed our entire home and installed a boiler for a very reasonable price. We bidded it out to 5 firms and he did it in record time. His number is 917.531.8385. If you need references or to see the work, email me at minasimon at yahoo.com. We’re on Cambridge so he know us well since I recommended him to several neighbors also.

  2. Amazing.

We received an estimate of approximately $1,200 to convert from oil to gas from Nu-Lite of Maspeth (this would not include any changes to the chimney, if needed). We ended up sticking with oil and got a new boiler with hot water included (not a separate tank) for $6,500.

We also got an estimate on running a new gas pipe line from the front of the basement all the way to the rear of the third floor. It was $2,000. Filing would be an extra $1,000.

Just FYI, FWIW, we have an air shaft the pipe would run through, so there isn’t a whole lot of wall they have to break through in our case.

We didn’t do that either though, just went with electric.

We’ve used them for many jobs, they have three master’s plumbers licenses, and I think they’re awesome.
