Please let me know your recent experiences with NYPIRG oil coop.

  1. I moved to NYPIRG from Petro last year. So far a good experience… EXCEPT watch your bill. They assigned me to Boro Fuel, and the first few bills I was overcharged, when I called them to say I was an NYPIRG member, they said “oh yeah, sorry, we’ll adjust bill”. They did, but now I have to always watch bill. They were billing me $3.09 and the NYPIRG agreement was for $2.89.

Stay FAR AWAY FROM PETRO. Scare tactics were practically used when I tried to cancel my account because after one year they jacked rate waaay up. Ok, maybe i am being a bit dramatic here… but I honestly had to make about five phone calls demanding they cancel, and each time they promised that they would get me a better rate and call me, but I wouldnt hear from them or that if I changed my account I wouldnt know what quality the oil would be and could danger my family. They were trying to stall so that account would be automatically renewed on anniversary date. Finally I was screaming at them to cancel my account and had to had phone to my husband (who’s the calm, patient one) between us! I have no idea how the non-savvy customer would deal with this, my guess is they are ripping off a large portion of New Yorkers.

  2. my experience was very good, I was a member for about 20 years, and I sold the building about 8 years ago….alot will depend on which particular company they assign to you but since NYPIRG is a large buyers coop they have a certain amount of clout
