I currently have the thermostat in a tenant’s apt. I heard from someone that installing a special type of radiator valve with different pressure settings helps regulate the heating system better. Anyone care to share some light on this? What does this valve do?

  1. Very good eman. The key to this bad boy working is the vacuum breaker and the reset controller. Trvs can cause the radiator to become air bound when used improperly which is not a funny situation for the homeowner. Anyway since you are the only one who played I will give you the prize.

  2. notice the proviso..Note: For proper valve operation, the steam supply
must be cycled by a boiler control. Do not install
the 1PS thermostatic radiator valve assembly in a
zone where the boiler is cycled by an existing space
    thermostat.

  3. TRV’s can work on one pipe steam if another component is added to the radiator as well. Does anyone care to figure out what that component is? **Not you MP!**

    Good luck.

  4. @bessie – Yes, they do. Danfoss makes good TRVs. I’ve used them on the south side of my house which was hard to fine tune using standard valves ’cause those rooms get too hot during the day. For rooms that don’t get a lot of temp variability due to sun (or whatever), you may as well play around with different sized gorton valves, and simply find the one that makes the room most comfortable.
